![]() The central cross has a ragged shaft, where the protuberances symbolise the buboes of the plague or the remains of branches on a pruned tree. A the top, two angels collects the blood from the naile hands of Christ, with Saint John on one side and the Virgin on the other. Between these two caracters, two angels are holding up a chalice, recalling the origin of the Holly Grail. At the foot of the cross, a scourging of Christ shows Him appearing to lower his eyes before Longinus, the Roman legionary who pierced his side. To the right and left of Christ, Saint Peter can been holding the keys of Heaven and Saint Paul carrying a sword. On the other side of the cross is a Pieta between mary Magdalene Michael striking down the dragon. One of the crosses bears the good thief, Dysmas, whose soul, represented by a small figure leaving his mouth, is gathered by an angel. On the other side, the bad thief, Gestas is dying and his soul is snatched by a demon resembling a prehistoric animal. Comments No comment. Add your comment |
